Trash & Treasure 2025: A Community Tradition in Athens, TN

If you’re a bargain hunter, vintage lover, or just someone who enjoys a good community event, mark your calendars for one of Athens’ most anticipated traditions—Trash & Treasure 2025, hosted by the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum.

This annual fundraiser is more than just a sale—it’s a celebration of history, community, and discovery. From gently-used furniture and unique jewelry to all kinds of quirky treasures, there’s something for everyone at this event.

Premiere Night: First Dibs and Local Fun
Things kick off with Premiere Night on Wednesday, April 23, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. For just $10 (payable at the door), guests get exclusive first access to the best finds—before the general public even steps inside. This is a great night to snag the good stuff and support a great cause.

Public Sale: Free Entry, Endless Finds
If you can’t make it to Premiere Night, don’t worry—the public sale runs for three full days:

  • Thursday, April 24: 10 AM – 5 PM

  • Friday, April 25: 10 AM – 5 PM

  • Saturday, April 26: 10 AM – 3 PM

Entry on these days is totally free, making it the perfect family outing or weekend adventure.

Two Locations, Twice the Treasure

  • Museum Lower Level (522 West Madison Ave) – Furniture, lamps, and jewelry

  • Museum Annex (408 Washington Ave) – All other goods

Terry Kratz, President of the Museum Guild, shared that the team has wrapped up donation collections and is now focused on setting up for the big event. "We’re excited to welcome the community and hope everyone finds something special," she said.

You can listen to our interview with Terry Kratz on WYXI Radio , airing Tuesday morning April 22nd and the full video will be posted on our YouTube channel: @mainstreetathens. Be sure to tune in to get a behind-the-scenes look at all the hard work going into this community favorite.

All proceeds go directly back into the museum’s operations, helping preserve and share the rich history of McMinn County.

Cash or check only, so come prepared!
